Since learning to sail on his father's Redwing in Falmouth Harbour, Richard has gone on to sail everything from dinghies and windsurfers to ocean passage yachts.  A fully qualified RYA Yachtmaster Offshore, with commercial and cruising instructor endorsements, he has crewed, skippered, raced and instructed on boats around the world.  Most of his experience is around the Solent, south coast of England, Channel Islands and the Channel ports; but he has cruised extensively around the Baltic and the Danish Islands, Northern Ireland and west coast of Scotland, and Gibraltar to Spain.  He has skippered a transatlantic leg from Bermuda to New York, which included a couple of days of force 9 gales to test crew resolve!  Now living near Mylor he sails his own small gaffer locally, race crews with various friends, helps out with safety boat duties, and is actively involved with Mylor YC, Restronguet SC and the organization of Falmouth Week.
